Gaggenau’s ICFF Pop-Up Design Studio featuring mind-reading cooktops, Daniel Boulud and a kick-off party Friday

Gaggenau is coming through Openhouse to showcase their new full-surface induction cooktops. Doesn’t matter where you put your pots and pans: The stove knows! And it heats up the right spot, which means amazingly simple cooking. Gaggenau wasn’t always so modern. Founded in 1684, they’re one of the oldest manufacturers in Germany and still run with a hand-made manufacturing process.

Gaggenau pops up at Openhouse Friday May 18-Monday May 21 with a recreation of the Gaggenau factory, a wine-and-coffee bar, lounge areas, free Wifi and insanely stylish kitchen appliances. The pop up will showcase how they hand-make those oven doors, how you can make your kitchen more rugged and beautiful at the same time. Wine is brought to us by Boisset Vineyards who will be highlighting their Raymond vineyard and showcasing Gaggenau’s wine-storage unit.

If you’re lactose intolerant, please stop reading now. But if you’re like us into cheese, milk and all sorts of dairy-related treats, then you have probably been at Good Dairy event last Wednesday or at least should enjoy the photos of the event. Good Dairy (organized by Edible Manhattan) featured food and drinks from local restaurants like Lucy’s Whey, Murray’s Cheese, Momofuku Milk Bar, Hudson Whiskey, Brooklyn Gin, Kelso beer, Saxelby Cheesemongers, Stinky Bklyn and The Vanderbilt. We have to say they made lots of people very happy.

Last Thursday Openhouse became home for the most fashionable party in Manhattan. World’s leading vintage shop Decades launched their Rent The Runway collection featuring Chloe, Gucci, Herve Leger, Chanel, Louboutin, Jimmy Choo and more. The future Bravo TV stars and owners of Decades, Cameron Silver and Christos Garkinos, mingled with the crowd and we managed to snap these shots for you all to see.

Edible’s Good Dairy featuring Momofuku Milk Bar, Lucy’s Whey, Murray’s at Openhouse Gallery – April 25

Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan, our favorite foodie mag(s?) are coming to Openhouse Gallery April 25 to celebrate the milky way of eating. Good Dairy features a beautiful array of local restaurants, cheese shops and, of course, a handful of alcohol pairing options. Included in this great event, which runs from 6-9 pm, are The Big Cheesy contestants Lucy’s Whey and Murray’s Cheese. Also involved: Momofuku Milk Bar, Hudson Whiskey, Brooklyn Gin, Kelso beer, Saxelby Cheesemongers, Stinky Bklyn and The Vanderbilt. Tickets are $25 and are almost sold out, so get yours before the cows head out to pasture.

Naked women + pink elephants: Michael Sagato’s Delirium Tremens

Last time art dealer Joseph Nahmad came through Openhouse, his show gave a nod to the visually impaired with Roy Nachum’s BLIND exhibit. This time, Joseph Nahmad Contemporary is all about the viewer with Michael Sagato’s Delirium Tremens. Paintings and photos of half-naked women (and a naked man) wearing pink elephant masks line the Openhouse walls through April 22. In the back room, you’ll find 200 Polaroids of the models in action, a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process. In the front, he’s arranged a series of playful photographs, and in the main room (painted black for the show) are Sagato’s oil paintings sharply contrasted against polished aluminum surfaces. They’re all inspired by the silly … creative things we do when we’re seeing pink elephants. That is, when we’re drunk.

Sagato is fresh off shows at London’s Wanted Gallery and NYC’s Milk Studios. Delirium Tremens is live at Openhouse until April 22. Cruise through, and take home a Sagato book, too.

New York Times features Melt Shop, Little Muenster, Milk Truck

A month after our Big Cheesy championship, the New York Times explores the bubbling, wonderful world of NYC grilled cheese sandwiches. That was one of our goals: To spread the word about the artisanal grilled cheese culture throughout the city. GCs aren’t just about American singles and bacon anymore. As The Big Cheesy showed fans, there are dozens of ways to make the classic sandwich. The NYT’s story featured three Big Cheesy contestants including this year’s winner – Melt Shop – last year’s champ – Keith Klein’s Milk Truck – and fancy Lower East Sider Little Muenster. Big Lobby Art Opening Party: From spiraling wooden sculptures to piranas

More than 400 Openhouse members and art fans came down for Streetwater’s Big Lobby Art show at 201 Mulberry St. The two-day pop up features gigantic art, the world’s smallest clothing collection, Time Out New York’s Most Creative New Yorker Borbay, signed Salvador Dali prints, a majestic wood and ash installation by Jeremy Holmes and plenty of other work.

Streetwater’s goal is to bring lobby art from the basement of the art-world’s eye to the penthouse. As Borbay put it to DNAInfo reporter Andrea Swalec, “People’s general conception of lobby art is that you get into an elevator and get elevator music and get out into the lobby and find lobby art, which can range from very good to stuff that looks like it was taken from a roadside hotel.”

Partners in Streetwater’s Big Lobby Art pop up include J Signs, KC Art Supplies & Framing, Mark Fahrer Catering, Oak Beverages and Party Up Productions.
